21_21 Design Sight
Jun 28th, 2006 by Ad Blankestijn
A new design center (21_21 design Sight) is now under construction at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi and if you look at the big names of the participants it promises to be very exciting when it opens in 2007. For starters, the architect is Tadao Ando, who continues to delight us, as with his recent Chichu Museum on Naoshima - he has designed a building of one floor above and one floor below ground, with a sloping roof of steel plates. Directors of the new center will be world-famous clothing designer Issey Miyake, graphic designer Taku Satoh and minimalistic product designer Naoto Fukasawa. The center will not be a museum, but a place to contemplate and research the future of design.
The general public is also invited to join hands, via an invitation to send photo-montages of the 21-21 design sight mark (see above) to a special Flickr site.
First seen on PingMag.
P.S. Also in Tokyo Midtown the New Suntory Museum of Art is being built; architect is the renowned Kengo Kuma.
